Chocapic13’s Shaders Mod 1.12 is in fact a shaderpack for the popular GLSL Shaders Mod started by daxnitro and continued by karyonix. This pack basically rewrite completely the rendering of the game, so it’s possible to add almost all the more recent graphic effects to Minecraft! It’s very useful in improving the graphics of Minecraft 1.12 and 1.11 by adding dynamic shadows, a pleasing effect of wind on the leaves, real sunshine and a better water modeled before. Shaders have several different versions, all more or less resource intensive. The official versions are the etreme version, ultra version, high version, medium version, and finally lite version.
Chocapic13’s Shaders Mod adds a lot of features to Minecraft like parallax occlusion mapping, this one adds relief and reflections to blocks, bumpmap is a less performance expensive methor to add relief and reflections, and classic that adds no relief and standard graphic amelioration.
Moreover, Chocapic13 is unique among shaders because it isn’t a standalone shader pack, but more like a shader mod for an existing shader pack, GLSL Shaders Mod, maintained by karyonix and developed from daxnitro’s GLSL Shaders Mod. Lots of people just love to make their Minecraft worlds look more realistic it seems, and there are few tools better for enhancing the world already filled with beautiful shadows than this particular mod. It must be stated that some shader packs, especially the one mentioned and with this mod added, render at about one tenth the speed of vanilla Minecraft. Your FPS will suffer.
Please read the following about mod performance and system requirements. Chocapic13’s Shaders Mod 1.12 is a very demanding mod and if you can’t run Minecraft with default graphic settings with no lag, don’t try to install this mod. In my case with a GTX 670 i get around 50-60 fps with the extreme version, 75-80 with ultra,90-95 with high, 100-110 with medium and above 150 with low (cpu limited here) with a 16 chunks render distance. This can change a lot depending on the situation.
Basically, this means you can look forward to crippled, slow frame rates unless you’re already getting around 200 frames per second when playing Minecraft without any added graphics components. It is strongly recommended for the players and users of Chocapic13’s Shaders Mod to install the tool OptiFine HD, this is another mod which maximizes performance by adjusting many native Minecraft settings. This mod comes with several beta versions to browse as well as 5 different levels of the finished mod; Extreme, Ultra, High, Medium and Low. Each step up takes more GPU and CPU power to render correctly, with choppiness if your computer can’t handle it, so keep that in mind.
Here’s some advanced tips about Chocapic13’s Shaders Mod for you. Into the shaderpacks folders there are .fsh and .vsh files. You can open them with any text editor, and there are different constant that you can change by yourself. You can increase the render resolution into the shaderpack settings. x1.42… correspond to SSAA x2, x2.0 to SSAA x4. However it kills the framerate. Shadow render resolution can be increased too here.
